Source: I was an usher at the time who personally observed this. I remember him well.

Jackie Searl appeared for several years at the California State Fair Horse Show in Sacramento before World War II--probably the years 1938 thru 1941. He entered jumping contests with his horse. He was a great favorite of the crowds who knew him from his movies. I was an usher in the grandstands during some of this period.
