Richard Rust was an accomplished actor who led an impressive career, primarily on the big screen. Rust had an early acting career in film, appearing in such titles as "The Legend of Tom Dooley" (1959), "Comanche Station" (1960) with Randolph Scott and the Rita Moreno crime flick "This Rebel Breed" (1960). He also appeared in the thriller "Homicidal" (1961) with Glen Corbett and the drama "Underworld, U.S.A." (1961) with Cliff Robertson. He worked in television in his early acting career as well, including a part on "Sam Benedict" (NBC, 1962-63). He continued to act in productions like the action flick "Taras Bulba" (1962) with Bill F Calvert, "Walk on the Wild Side" (1962) and "Alvarez Kelly" (1966). He also appeared in the drama "The Student Nurses" (1970) with Elaine Giffos, the Jim Brown drama "I Escaped From Devil's Island" (1973) and the action film "Savage Red - Outlaw White" (1974) with Robert Padilla. During the latter part of his career, he continued to act in the Robert Padilla adventure "The Great Gundown" (1977), the Sean Penn action movie "Colors" (1988) and the Daryl Haney action picture "Daddy's Boys" (1988). He also appeared in the action movie "Double Revenge" (1988)...

Richard Rust's mother died when he was five, his father was a naval officer, and so he lived with his aunt.

Studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, 340 East 54th Street.

He was a replacement in the play Long Day's Journey into Night on Broadway in the late 50s, with Frederic March and Florence Eldridge (March's wife) in the Helen Hayes Theatre.

He was married to Dionne Van Hessen and had 3 children, Dorinda, Rachel and Richard. This marriage ended in divorce. He married and was divorced from Karin Guttler and had one child. He had another child after ending these two marriages.

He was interested in reading about mysticism and religion, painting in oils (he spent 1960 in Mexico, painting), sailing, swimming, listening to music, water skiing.

He won the Hank Tabor role on Sam Benedict over 60 competitors because of his acting experience and also, his excellent educational background.

Richard Rust is in such "cult classics" as Underworld USA and Naked Angels, both of which often sell on ebay for outrageous amounts, not to mention Homicidal.
