Clarkson parlayed her historic win to become a commercially successful recording artist, from her double-platinum debut album, Thankful (2003), to the Grammy Award-winning single "Since U Been Gone" (2004). Clarkson caught some well-deserved flak for starring in the ill-fated musical comedy film "From Justin to Kelly" (2003), but separated herself from "Idol" with her hit album Breakaway (2004) while widening her horizons with the darker, more rock-oriented My December (2007) and delving into country music in 2008.
