Former newspaper reporter in Iowa and San Francisco, Reynolds moved to Hollywood in 1913 and played in several films for the Burton King Company before joining Universal as a writer and director. Following an argument with his wife, actress Kathleen O'Connor, waved a gun at one of the guests and then turned the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Reynolds' final film, "God's Country" was finished by and credited to Irvin Willat.
