After an impressive early appearance as a straight-talking sex kitten in the Coen Brothers' "The Big Lebowski" (1998), followed by a prominent role in the megahit teen comedy "American Pie" (1999), appealing young actress Tara Reid seemed poised for a robust career in Hollywood - that is, before questionable professional and personal choices quickly relegated her to tabloid fodder status. After starting her career with television guest spots on shows like "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" (NBC, 1993-2000), she landed the breakout role of trophy wife Bunny in "The Big Lebowski." Suddenly a hot ticket, Reid was offered parts in projects such as the thriller "Urban Legend" (1998) and teen melodrama "Cruel Intentions" (1999). However, it was her role as the virginal Vicky in the raunchy high school sex farce "American Pie" that officially put Reid on the Hollywood map along with the rest of her co-stars. The years that immediately followed saw Reid logging many late night hours on the celebrity party circuit, accompanied by less-than-stellar film projects like the rock-n-roll comedy "Josie and the Pussycats" (2001). A reduced role in the sequel "American Pie 2" (2001) provided her with a brief return to the top of the box office, although follow-ups like the dismal "Alone in the Dark" (2005) ensured that it would be short-lived. By the end of the decade, Reid's off-screen foibles, a much-publicized plastic surgery disaster, and a steady stream of little seen direct-to-video efforts eventually reduced Reid's stature as an actress to that of a footnote, known more for her carousing than her body of work.

Notes

"I can make a scene that's not supposed to be sexy, very sexy. It's a power you're born with. It's not a physical thing, it comes from inside. It's all in the eyes." --Reid in Movieline, November 1998.

"I read these stories about me, and they're not about my work but about me as a party girl. All of this stupid stuff: clubs I'm not at, bars I'm not at, people I'm not dating. That effects me, though, because people read that stuff and I might not get a role [because of it]."---Reid on the way the press portrays her Filmforce.ing.com April 4, 2002
