  • Exquisite Actor, Beautiful Man

Sir Michael Redgrave's stage and film legacy continues to impress graduate students of filmography. According to scores of well written accounts of his life, Sir Michael was also a man of integrity, who's sophistication & appreciation for his family left us with the Redgrave theatrical dynasty. I hope that his spirit shines through everyone in his bloodline. Surely Vanessa has taken up his cause to fashion a fine clan of performing artists. (And by the way, who cares that he was bisexual and loved Noel Coward? Thank God he loved and was a gentle soul).

Now into the 4th & 5th generations of the Redgrave family's theatrical tradition, so much credit for it is due to Sir Michael Redgrave, who deliberately set out, with his wife, actress Rachel Kempson, to make the theater the family's business. It's very easy for me to choose my favorite among the highly varied roles of Sir Michael's, I like him most in "Thunder Rock." He was beyond handsome then, to the degree that he was beautiful from the inside out. His eldest daughter, who has helped to keep the family's theatrical tradition building throughout the generations, Vanessa Redgrave, looks very much like Sir Michael. Now she has a grandson by her eldest daughter, Natasha (1963-2009) & Liam Neeson who is named Michael & also strongly resembles his famous great-grandfather. TCM: more, more, more of Sir Michael's films. Aloha
