• Last Time I Saw Paris

  Just saw "The Last Time I Saw Paris" on the Big Screen at the Loews Theatre in East Windsor NJ. I've seen it many times on TV and wanted to see it in a theatre. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote a witty story and the dialogue was terrific. Walter Pidgeon was outstanding as Elizabeth Taylor's and Donna Reed's father. It was in my opinion worthy of a Best Supporting Actor's Oscar (don't know if he was nominated). I noticed in Mr. Pidgeon's list of accomplishments there is no mention of this movie or his performance. What a shame. My wife and I loved his performance.

  One hell of a man and a terrific, if low keyed leading man and actor in character roles. He did Canada PROUD. I remember seeing him as a boy in one of his last screen appearances. I don't remember the name of the film, but the lead was, I believe, a French Canadian lad who played a character called GILLES ( pronounced.... jeele ). Wish I could remember the name of the film. A marvellous man and actor. He deserved the wonderful career he had.

  TCM aired The Unknown Man recently, one of Walter Pidgeon's lesser known films, but nonetheless revealing his talents as a dignified yet amusing and amused character, noble yet troubled and tryhing to do the right thing. It's notable that he came from New Brunswick, Canada, and became integral to the American cinematic and television scene. So many of our talented actors and public figures have come from the northern continent above us but become familiarly American, to mention a few -- Michael J. Fox, Donald Sutherland, and Peter Jennings (who passed away only five years ago, I believe.)

  Mr. Walter Pidgeon is the most professional actor I remember. Through TCM I have been able to watch almost every movie he made. I just see he is the star or part of the cast and I must see the movie as he never made a bad movie. He saved alot. Thank you TCM for bringing me so much pleasure. God bless you all.

  IT WAS JUST ABOUT JULY,1958, AND I WAS IN CAMP.THE PLACE LACONIA NEW HAMPSHIRE.AN OUTING HAD BEEN PLANNED ,TO VISIT THE THEATER THERE,AND I DECIDED TO GO.IT WOULD BE MY FIRST PLAY.I DO NOT REMEMBER THE PLAY, BUT IREMEMBER BEING INTRODUCED TO AKIND ,AND THOUGHTFUL MAN,SMOKING QUIETLY JUST ASIDE THE MAIN ENTRANCE. HE SHOOK MY AHAND AND ASKED ME SEVERAL QUESTIONS, SEEMINGLY CONCERNED AND ATTENTIVE.THEN, I WAS LEAD AWAY,TO JOIN THE OTHERS.STEVEN, WHO HAD INTRODUCED TO THE DISTINGUSED GENTLEMAN,SAID ,HEY RICK BY THE THE WAY DO YOU KNOW WHO THAT WAS.I DIDNT,SO HE TOLD ME ,THAT WAS WALTER PIDGEON,A FAMOUS ACTOR.ACTUALLY I WAS IMPRESSED, HE SEEMED LIKE THE GRANDFATHER TYPE,AND I FOLLOWED HIS WORK THE REST OF MY LIFE.

  i love walter's films, esp. pairing with the exquisite greer garson. he was extremely versatile and played anyone from pierre curie, to florenze ziegfeld. he is on my top five list.
