On the big screen, Paul first appeared in the independent "American Nightmare" (1982), but considers her role as a ski-loving counterpart to Kristy McNichol in "Just the Way You Are" (1984) as her screen debut, although her turn in "Christine" as the comely young teen in competition with a devil-incarnate car, was released in 1983. She has also co-starred opposite Kevin Costner in "American Flyer" (1985), in "Dragnet" (1987), and more recently starred in "The Paperboy" (1994), as a woman who moves back to her hometown and discovers the boy next door is a murderer.

Notes

Paul is also a vocal social activist. She was arrested 12 times in the early 80s at anti-nuclear protests; refuses to wear any cosmetics made by companies which do testing on animals -- including screen make-up; drives an electric car; and has traveled to South Africa to promote voter education and participation. "Everyone in my family has been arrested for civil disobedience apart from my father . . . I get things fixed rather than buy news things . . . I have an electric car and I am buying less clothes."-- Paul quoted in press material for "Nightwatch"

"Maybe I'm typecast this year, but I'll something else next year. Whatever you do, people put you in a little box for the moment. But you can get out of it." -- Alexandra Paul in THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, January 17, 1995.
