Began designing costumes for film and TV in the mid-1970s. Paredes was able to exercise a flair for slinky and fantastic fashion in the lush TV miniseries "Scruples" (1980), the remake of "Cat People" (1982), and the adventure fantasy "Ice Pirates" (1984). He also supplemented Lily Tomlin's diverse characterizations in "The Incredible Shrinking Woman" (1981) and the film version of her one-woman stage show, "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe" (1991).
