Tate was an assistant to Cecil B. DeMille and one of Hollywood’s first “yes-men,” a reputation he earned while working under DeMille. He started working for DeMille in 1916 as a second prop boy, he later worked his way up to being a production assistant and directed second unit crews on various films. Tate was married to actress Bess Flowers on September 2, 1923 in Ventura County, California.
