Warren Oates

Warren Oates was a superb character actor appearing in many memorable roles- as Sam Wood in "In the Heat of the Night" and as Lyle Gorch in "The Wild Bunch" being perhaps his best parts in classic films. He brought an immediate reality to his roles, a quality few actors can project. His career was cut short by his tragic death at an early age. I would encourage everyone to look into his filmography and watch for his appearances; his was a unique screen persona- and he will be missed.

I have watched Warren Oates in his starring roles, his character roles, and in Gunsmoke and The Rifleman. There will never be another like him, I am sad to say. He put his whole self in each role and was always lovable (to me) even when playing a villain. God bless him.
