She's a Treat!
I'm with Jack. She is marvellous in many films beyond the Tarzan pictures. She is indeed wonderful in Skyscraper Souls, and could she possibly be more adorable than she is in Woman Wanted (1935)?
After seeing Bo Derek trying to portray Jane, I can't help but think it a shame that back in the 1030s they were not able to foresee the time when DVDs for home showing would become available, what a treat if they had shot an alternative "Tarzan and His Mate" with Maureen O'Sullivan doing all of her scenes without her loin cloth, totally naked as a real Jane would have been. Knowing her personality and seeing how carefree she was wearing that skimpy outfit in front of camera and crew, , I have a feeling she'd have had no trouble doing it that way.
Sorry Edie, but Maureen was every bit as charming in so many other films, I love her in "Skyscraper Souls" where she was at her best, adorable to look at, sometimes totally shy, almost prudish, other times displaying a naughty and seductive side of her not often shown by her. She is irresistable.
Her Voice is Lyrical, Her face is beautiful, and her seeming innocence is utterly charming. Thank God for the Tarzan films. MGM wasted her charms in every movie but the Tarzan ones and Hide-out.
A Lovely Actress
No prettier face has ever been seen in movies and a nice little figure to boot. I especially enjoy her in her "Tarzan" appearances and in "Anna Karenina" with Garbo. I don't agree with her rating as a risk taker, what about her scanty outfit in "Tarzan" and her skinny dipping, totally nude.
a truly beautiful girl
- Robert Frantzen
She had genuine beauty and her voice was great to listen to. I compare her to Mirna Loy. I can imagin how many men wanted to marry her, just like Mirna Loy
Maureen the Brilliant
She was one of the best..I really loved her performance in "Stage Mother"
