Met Jerry Siegel in Toledo and began publishing fanzine <i>Science Fiction</i> in mid-1920s
1933:
With Siegel, created title character in short story "The Reign of the Superman," published in <i>Science Fiction #3</i>; character was a bald, telepathic villain bent on world domination
1936:
Unsuccessfully attempted to turn "The Reign of the Superman" into a comic strip; revised Superman character into a heroic figure (with an alter-ego named Clark Kent)
