Beaurefard Clemment (Dick Haymes), a New York night club crooner, inherits a broken-down Georgia showboat. He decides to turn it into a nightclub. He falls in love with Sally Jane (Audrey Totter), the granddaughter of Thadeus Jackson (Cecil Kellaway), arch enemy of Beau's late grandfather. Many, many songs (see Soundtrack) and a parody of "Ten Nights in a Barroom" (a Blake Edwards touch), with music featuring the Bell Sisters.

Mr. Dithers has gone on vacation and left Dagwood to look after the company. Toby tries to take advantage of Dagwood's naivete, but Blondie saves the day.
By accident Dagwood discovers a non-flammable paint. Bad guys Dillon and Stack steal it before he can give it to his boss Radcliffe. To show off his invention, Dagwood paints Radcliffe's house with it and disgraced when the house burns down. Blondie discovers the culprits and saves the day.
Dagwood falls foul of George M. Radcliffe even before he knows he's the new boss. After he manages to put a big deal in jeopardy he's in real trouble, and Blondie has the bright idea of having Radcliffe round for dinner. Maybe also inviting the feisty new schoolteacher to make up the foursome wasn't so bright though.

George Bailey is a small-town man whose life seems so desperate he contemplates suicide. He had always wanted to leave Bedford Falls to see the world, but circumstances and his own good heart have led him to stay. He sacrficed his education for his brother's, kept the family-run savings and loan afloat, protected the town from the avarice of the greedy banker Mr. Potter, and married his childhood sweetheart. As he prepares to jump from a bridge, his guardian angel intercedes, showing him what life would have become for the residents of Bedford Falls is he had never lived.
Dagwood and Blondie have each written checks for charity unaware the other has done so. To cover the amounts they enter a song-writing contest. Meanwhile Mr. Dithers wants Dagwood to soften up a female client in order to close a real estate deal.

Blondie organizes Housewives of America to perform homefront wartime duties, including guarding the local dam. Dagwood and the other husbands don't care to be left home doing the cooking and taking care of the kids, so Dagwood pretends to join the Army. Blondie disbands the organization and comes home.
Dagwood decides to go to college. Blondie goes along with him, keeping their marriage a secret. They send Baby Dumpling off to military school where he becomes top sergeant. Blondie is hounded by the campus stud and Dagwood makes the rowing team. It is revealed that a new child is on the way.
Young Henry Aldrich would like to "win" a trip to Alaska. But in order to participate, he first has to put up $100. The whole matter sounds awfully fishy. Henry and his pal Dizzy go into the soap business. Their attempt to raise money turns into a disaster when they get the soap formula wrong. But the Alaska trip is really on the level. It's been organized by Sylvanus Q. Sattherwaite, businessman and philanthropist. But Henry still doesn't have the money...
Gangster Deak Foster (Victory Jory) and his three henchmen, Brains Moran (Maxie Rosenbloom), Ears-to-the-Ground Hinkle (Horace MacMahon) and Photofinish Farris (George McKay), take over what they think is a night club run by a rival, Stud Rocco (Ralf Harold), only to discover it is a nursery run by Irene Perry (Rochelle Hudson). All fall under the benign influence to the point where the three henchmen go to night school to be educated and Deak falls in love with Julie.
Dagwood brings home a pedigreed Great Dane which an important company client wants and which Blondie enters in the big dog show. A highlight of this film is the canine burping display.
Mr. Dithers puts Blondie and Dagwood in a mansion to show buyers it's not haunted.

The Bumsteads decide to spend a safe and sane 4th of July at Aunt Hannah's ranch. After missing their station, they hitch a ride with a young couple who are getting ready to elope. The young man, Charlie, sprains his ankle, so Dagwood is enlisted to carry the girl off for him. Dagwood climbs into her father's window by mistake, and just as the old man is about to explode with rage, Baby Dumpling explodes a firecracker which turns out to be a stick of dynamite. As the action reaches its peak, a gusher of oil suddenly springs up in the yard.
Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead lose Baby Dumpling as well as Daisy the dog.
Blondie, Dagwood, Baby Dumpling and Daisy help an elderly couple save their mountain resort.
Blondie fills in for Dagwood at the office, so he can go on a fishing trip.
On the eve of their fifth wedding anniversary, Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead are in financial trouble.
