Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

After spending the better part of a decade onscreen in small bit parts, actor James Roday seized the moment when he was cast as the lead on the comedy mystery series, "Psych" (USA, 2006- ). Once an aspiring athlete, the boyishly handsome actor went from theater work in New York City to small film and television roles after relocating to Hollywood. Early efforts included prominent roles in two ill-fated TV series - "Ryan Caulfield: Year One" (FOX, 1999-2000) and "First Years" (NBC, 2000-01). There was a bit part in the big budget action comedy "Showtime" (2002), followed by another quickly canceled show "Miss Match" (NBC, 2003-04). Roday had a string of supporting roles in films like "The Dukes of Hazzard" (2005), "Don't Come Knocking" (2006), and "Beerfest" (2006), all leading up to his breakout role on "Psych." As Shawn Spencer, a wannabe shamus with a secret, Roday combined a charming persona with deft comedic timing, making the character more than just another pretty face on the exceedingly crowded cable landscape. Proving himself to be a viable double-threat, Roday began contributing to the highly-rated show as a frequent writer, ensuring himself a robust Hollywood career in one form or another...
