Petkere began her career in vaudeville on the Pantages Circuit when she was five years old, appearing in an act called “Baby Dolls” with her aunt. During her teenage years she sang with a dance band and became a pianist for a publishing company. In the mid 1920s she began writing music and had her first song, ‘Starlight’ published in 1931. Petkere wrote ‘Lullaby of the Leaves,’ ‘Stay Out of My Dreams,’ ‘Oh Moon,’ ‘Wedding Waltz’ and many others. In the late 1930s she moved to California with her husband and continued writing songs and also wrote screenplays.
