Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

John McLiam leveraged his everyman appearance and style to build a career playing a vast range of characters in film and TV. He got his start in 1951, appearing in Joseph Pappâ¿¿s earliest theater productions. That same year, he found himself appearing in Maxwell Andersonâ¿¿s Broadway production of "Barefoot in Athens." By the 1950s, he was working as a writer on the long-running television show "Robert Montgomery Presents," and he had his first television role on an episode of that program. By the time he made his last television appearance in 1991 on the critically acclaimed drama "My Life and Times," he had played characters in hundreds of shows, including "The Twilight Zone," "Dynasty," and "Star Trek: The Next Generation." He also appeared in over 20 movies, such as Woody Allenâ¿¿s sci-fi comedy "Sleeper," the 1967 prison flick "Cool Hand Luke," and the adaptation of Truman Capoteâ¿¿s true-crime book, "In Cold Blood," where he was cast as real-life murder victim Herbert Clutter.
