The Man with the Golden Arm

I recently saw this movie on TCM and it was brilliant! Darren was really smooth as a drug dealer named Louis. Personally, I think he made the movie worth watching. From the first moment he appeared, he was mesmerizing. The way he manipulated Frankie (Frank Sinatra) was genius. It was like watching someone be seduced. While one should dislike McGavin's character for using Frankie, I just couldn't. The chemistry on screen between the two was magical. This is a movie I plan to buy and could watch over and over again. This movie was way before my time, so I really don't know much about drug addiction being taboo at that time. I'm glad it was made because it takes you through so many emotions. I really felt bad for Frankie because he was like putty in Louis' hands, had a scheming wife and was under a lot of pressure. However, Darren McGavin's character was the most exciting scenes for me. Although he is deceased, I can't wait to see what other movies he has made.

Terrific vesatile Actor who played many roles well. Signature performance as Kolchak on the "Night Stalker " TV series. Most memorable film performances in ""The Natural " and "The Christmas Story." Well respected and always gave his best.
