Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Although his resume is small, young English actor Charlie Rowe has managed to be in several high-profile productions. Before he was 10 years old, Rowe appeared on an episode of the long-running British children's show "Jackanory," which over the years featured various celebrities like Helena Bonham Carter, Ian McKellen, and Peter Sellers, to mention only a few, reading storybooks and folktales. Rowe's episode was a "Lord of the Rings" parody entitled "Muddle Earth," and it differed from earlier segments by featuring full-fledged computer animation. Actors Rik Mayall and Ben Kingsley performed the voices and narration, while Rowe starred as the young hero Joe, a stand-in for Frodo Baggins. The following year he starred in the big screen adaptation of the first novel in Philip Pullman's beloved "His Dark Materials" trilogy, "The Golden Compass." His role was small, but the movie certainly wasn't. In 2009 Rowe had another small part in the ill-fated big budget comedy "Pirate Radio" a.k.a. "The Boat That Rocked," about rock 'n' roll pirate deejays who keep the kids swingin' and the authoritarian stiffs panicking.
