Becoming a favorite with critics as well as fans, the young Jessie J proved she had the magic blend of charisma and talent to make it as a modern-day pop star.

Born March 27, 1988 in Chadwell Heath, Essex, England, Jessica Ellen Cornish grew up fascinated with music and wasted no time landing a role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Whistle Down the Wind" at age 11. Graduating from London's famed BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology alongside future stars like Adele, Jessie J made professional inroads when she joined the girl group Soul Deep. While recovering from a minor stroke, the young singer penned a tune about her health issues, "Big White Room," which revealed her impressive songwriting ability. After landing an indie record deal as a solo performer, she began touring in support of multiple artists, including Cyndi Lauper and Sugababes, but found herself at a crossroads when the label folded.

Songwriting saved her career, when her composition "Sexy Silk" was used in a global NIVEA campaign, and she would go on to co-write Miley Cyrus's 2009 international smash "Party in the U.S.A." Jessie J scored her own massive success with her 2011 debut album, Who You Are, which served as her international calling card. Although she scored U.K. hits with "Do it Like a Dude," "Nobody's Perfect" and the title track, the singer managed to break into the U.S. market with smashes "Price Tag," featuring B.o.B., and her biggest hit off the album, "Domino," which reached No. 6 in the U.S. and No. 1 in the U.K. Her profile continued to rise, as Jessie J served as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975- ), scored a gig as one of the four judges on "The Voice UK" (BBC One, 2012- ), and announced her a new album in 2013.
