John McEnery was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for "Romeo & Juliet" in 1968. His film career continued throughout the eighties and the nineties in productions like "The Krays" (1990) with Billie Whitelaw, "Hamlet" (1990) with Mel Gibson and "The Fool" (1991) with Derek Jacobi. In his more recent career, he continued to act in the drama "Prince of Shadows" (1991) with Terence Stamp, the dramatic adaptation "The Buddha of Suburbia" (1993) with Roshan Seth Obe and the dramatic adaptation "Black Beauty" (1994) with Sean Bean. He also appeared in "When Saturday Comes" (1997) and the Colin Firth dramatic adaptation "Girl With a Pearl Earring" (2003). Most recently, McEnery acted on "Wallander" (PBS, 2008-2013).

John McEnery (born 1 November 1943 in Birmingham, England) is a British actor and writer. At age 20 he found his first stage work, spending three seasons with the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool. He joined the British National Theatre Company in 1966. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He appeared, most notably, co-starring to Jean-Pierre Cassel and Claude Jade in GĂ©rard Brach's The Boat on the grass and as Mercutio in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet. He was nominated for a BAFTA for the latter performance. He has two daughters, Phoebe and Chloe, by his former wife, actress Stephanie Beacham. One brother is actor Peter McEnery, and another is photographer David McEnery.
