The Unforgetable Doug McClure
He was the first actor I remember noticing as a child (not counting Lassie). When Doug McClure was on the screen I never noticed anyone else. He was the star of the Virginian to me & I believe to most of the audience especially the female portion. To me Doug McClure had the charisma & talent to be a major star. If he had not been on TV for free, he might have been the 60's version of Mel Gibson or even Johnny Depp. Consider almost 20 years after his death & so many years after he was a regular on TV, Doug McClure is still revered by his forever fans. I would really like to see King's Pirate 1967. I have not seen it for years.
Doug gone but not.forgotton

I am in my seventies and have always loved Doug McClure. I started watching the show last year. What a personality. I also hope to see The Longest Hundred Miles. I watch Shenandoah ever time it comes on my Western Channel and the Unforgiven. It is too bad, he was taken away from us so young.
Thought he was the best. Good looks friendly and energetic. Loved his acting
Will you ever get longest hundred miles?
This was my all time favorite movie, It used to come on every year then when Doug McClure Passed it seems to have vanished. Do you by any chance have it for sale even? Thank you ahead for putting it on TCM if you are able.PLEASE!!!

I would also like to see The Longest Hundred Miles on TCM. I remember seeing it on NBC Saturday Night at the Movies many years ago but haven't seen it since. Doug McClure, Katherine Ross, and Ricardo Montalban are the stars.

I'm also wanting to know when you will be showing THE LONGEST HUNDRED MILES with Doug Mcclure and Katharine Ross?? Also if you have so many movies why do you show the same ones over and over. Time for some new ones. Thanks,
Missing From Filmography
He made a movie with Katharine Ross that has not been on TV in years. I believe the name of the movie is "The Longest 100 Miles". It takes place on a Japanese controlled island in the pacfic during WWII. He is stranded on the island during wartime and he must meet up with his rescueres on the other side of the island. He gets help from the island clergy, Ricardo Montalban and Katharine Ross, who plays a military nurse. There is a lively cast of native children that also assist in his rescue. They cross the island in a rickety old truck, fueld by coconut husks. It is a fascinating and entertiaining story. Please find it! This movie is also missing from Katharine Ross's fimlography. They were the 2 major stars in this film. I can't believe it was missed by TCM.
Comments for a very missed STAR Doug McClure
- Patricia Prior
Both as a fan and a loyal movie and tv. watcher, I adored Doug McClure and still. He had the devil in him which was so prevelant when he played comedy in The Virginian and Gidget etc. The episode of The Virginian, where he had grown a moustache over the summer hiatus was hilarious. Unfortunately he died too soon and never got to show what he could really do in a serious role. In Shenandah, he had the beginnings but never, I don't think, given a full chance. He'll always be missed.
