  I come from the same hometown as Victor Mature (Louisville, Kentucky). Vic had a great sense of humor. During the shooting of Cecil B. DeMille's Samson and Delilah, Vic refused to wrestle with "Jackie the Lion" during a fight scene. DeMille explained that the lion didn't have any teeth.... and Vic told him "I don't plan to be gummed to death either". Vic talked fellow actor and former Kentucky Military Instutute school mate, Jim Bachus, into going with him to a nearby bar during the shooting of Androcoles and the Lion. Both men startled the bartender as they were still dressed in their Roman soldier uniforms. Vic casually responded, "What's the matter...don't you serve men in uniform!"

  I will always remember Victor Mature - not only for his handsome looks but for his acting as well. He really was a good actor but, because of his good looks, a lot of people didn't think so. He was definitely a handsome man with much talent. I miss him in the movies; always enjoyed his performances. Sincerely, Patty K. :-)
