They find out that Michael is a double agent, working for the CIA and the KGB, and is on the run from both after stealing a dangerous bio-weapon and a large amount of money. Michael eventually takes Lauren hostage, but she escapes, and by the time the whole ordeal is over, Lauren and Sandy have become genuine friends.
