THOMAS BECK was born on December 29, 1909 and raised in the Forest Park section of Baltimore, Maryland. An athletic and good looking boy, he was the 'Lothario' of Forest Park High School. Following graduation he moved to New York City to persue his interest in acting. A talent scout from 20th CENTURY-FOX spotted BECK and encouraged him to go to Hollywood which he did. His screen test at 20th led to a standard studio contract. Between 1934 and 1939 he was featured in over 25 movies usually in the role of the romantic male lead or 2nd lead. BECK was cast in 4 'Charlie Chan' films and several of the 'Mr. Moto' movies. His best remembered roles are most likely as the village priest in the film HEIDI (1937) that starred SHIRLEY TEMPLE and as the soldier who dies in RONALD COLMAN'S arms in UNDER TWO FLAGS (1936). In 1939, when his contract was renegotiated less favorably, a disillusioned BECK left the world of film making. THOMAS BECK eventually ended up in real estate developement and sales, a field in which he excelled. He was also a talented painter and wrote several books. He lived in the Miami area of Florida the last two decades of his life before dying on September 23, 1995 3 months shy of his 86th birthday.
