(Continued) Known as a true and loyal friend, he was well loved among his peers. Two Super Star making roles he had been selected for (Tale of Two Cities & Lost Horizon) were given at the last minute to his best friend, Ronald Coleman, because of Coleman's proven box office draw. Mr. Aherne refused to let these events effect their friendship and they remained best friends until Coleman's death in 1959.

  • A Proper Job, A Great Guy! Part 1

    • Ralph
    • 2006-04-30

Brian Aherne is a name that has largely been forgotten, but his career on stage and in Hollywood was admirable (1924 - 1966). The quality of his stage performances far outshown his Hollywood legacy. However, his performance as the noble, but doomed Emperor of Mexico, Maximillian von Habsburg, earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1939.
