Overlooked Great Actor
- carolyn kingsley
This is an actor I've often overlooked and i don't know why. I guess i was too in love with Clark Gable. Thank goodness that I'm through that phase. I've just watched Middle of the Night twice. He was really great. He made Kim Novak look good. I'm in the process of watching Nothing Sacred with Carole Lombard. From there i intend to move on down the line with the rest of his films. I tell everyone out there, don't get hung up on one or two actors. Give others a chance. Freddy march is an example. He gave us some mighty fine performances. Add him to your list.

I just watched One foot in Heaven. What a tremendously moving film. When the WW I is over and he prays with the town in the snow,I just cried. When he goes to the movies with his son to set an example of what is wrong with seeing movies and then enjoys it is wonderful. He is a type of man that just does not exist or is extremely rare in this world now. In everything I have seen there is a humility in him.Oh, and how handsome he is.
The Great March
- Linda Velez
Fredric March is sadly under-appreciated in the 21st century. The more of his work I see, the more I am in awe of him. TCM should do a special on him. His acting in "Dr. Jeckill and Mr. Hyde" is amazing. How he pulled it off with out all the makeup tricks used since then is a testament to his prowess. Whenever there is a film with him in it, I must watch it.
Fredric March biography overdue
- Gloria McMillan
Much for the same reasons that I just posted for Paul Muni, a video biography of Fredric March would be most welcome for those who admire the craft of acting. This actor distinguished himself as the only star of a horror film to win the Best Actor award (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, 1931). He went from an engaging and charismatic leading man into a brilliant career as a character actor. Few actor match his sheer intensity and focus inside a role (Paul Muni is one). So, let the younger generation know the scope that is available to them if they work, sweat, study, and learn. Even the print biography's title for Fredric March makes this point. I think it goes: Fredric March: Craftsman First, Star Second. -Gloria We wait for the biography and hope it comes soon. Gloria
Forgotten and Underrated Actor of 30's, 40's, 50's and 1960's. Terrific body of work includes Best Actor for Dr. Jekyll (1932). Wide range of acting skills is his Hallmark. Played monsters, monarchs, Presidents, ministers and various roles which required sensitive portrayals to tyrranical, or royalty. One of his greatest performances was as Al Stephenson in "The Best Years of Our Lives(1946)", where he plays WWII Veteran returning home after the war, only to find that life challenges to be as difficult as making the transition to civilian life. One of those rare Actors when on screen you can almost see the wheels turning in his expressions. Muti-talented and Well Respected. Always one of my favorites.

Guess what? I'm related to him. My grandma's last name was Bickel and he is her cousin. It is so exciting.
Does anyone have information on a 78 rpm record narrated by Fredric March called The Secret Garden with a fabric cover?
Best there ever was
Those in the know, well, they KNOW that Mr. March was the best of the best. His range of characters, his award-winning performances, his independant spirit both on and off the screen... what else can I say? Nobody has ever topped him (as the #1 Hollywood actor of all time) and I do not expect anybody to do so in the near future either.
He was up there with Gary Cooper
I have liked every part I have seen him play, even if the character was not someone I liked. He still made me enjoy the movie. He was great. My favorite movies with him are 'A Star Is Born' and 'Nothing Sacred', but that is probably because they are the first I saw of him when I was a lot younger. Probablly nostalgia, but I still love those movies, to this day.
Fredric March movies should be played more.
- frances benjamin
I am just crazy over this wonder Actor. Fredric March has many movies that Turner Classic should look into showing. I thank them for playing the ones they have. Design for Living, True to the Navy, Merrily We go to Hell, Tonight is Ours, Middle of the Night and Good Dame are just a few movies by March everyone would enjoy if the movies were shown. He also worked with some other wonderful Actors in above named movies. They too worked well opposite March. There is know one today in movies that even comes close to the skills he had.
What A Guy!!
I just "Anthony Adverse".What a film! What a guy! He was magnificent and even more beautiful. I can't wait to see him in other films. I have never seen him before this morning's showing of this movie. I am now a great fan!
One of the best!He and William Powell would have made a team so much alike!
What an amazingly talented icon!!! I think he's an amzing actor. He is soo versatile. and he has an incredible voice.
One of the greatest American actors
- Bob Beaird
When you consider his range from comedy to drama, his stage work, the extraordinarily high quality of all of his work, the length of his career (watch his Harry Hope at the end of his career) and his honest, natural style (coming from a time when actors where much more mannered), he has to belong among the greats of American acting. Sadly he is too little known now.
The Best Actor Ever to Live
- Deborah L.
Fredric March is the best actor ever to grace an American stage or screen. He was capable of range and subtlety that we haven't seen since he retired, not even from De Niro, Pacino, Newman, Hoffman or Daniel Day Lewis. Whether it's "Inherit the Wind" or "The Best Years of Our Lives" or "An Act of Murder", March plays it better than anybody else. Every movie he ever made should be available on DVD. No matter what the cost, I'd buy the entire set! Rent Thee a Fredric March movie today! Watch a master at work.
The finest American Actor of all times!!
- Alan Booom
Fredric March was the finest American actor of all times!! Unfortunately, today the movie going public probably does not recognize his name. Fredric March brought acting to a new high, his on-screen performances were magnificant. His ability to handle any acting assignment was uncanny, from drama to comedy. A great actor who will never be be duplicated. I once read a movie critic state "when you go to see a Fredric March movie, you do not care about the movie plot, you go to see his acting!!" I can't say enough about his acting and his movies, unfortunately I never got to see him act on Broadway, because i was too youg.
Fredric March was a very talented actor who is almost forgotten now. I think he was a very natural actor, and he gets overlooked too much. I think he was every bit as good as Spencer Tracy or Gary Cooper, yet Fredric March is not remembered as well, why is that? He was a highly gifted actor, and please keep playing his movies on TCM. I enjoy them tremendously.
