Professional baseball player Mickey Mantle took his talents to a whole new ballpark: the star-studded world of entertainment. Mantle kickstarted his acting career in comedies like "Safe at Home" (1962) with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, "That Touch of Mink" (1962) and "It's My Turn" (1980) with Jill Clayburgh. He appeared in a number of television specials, including "Baseball's All-Star Comedy Classics '88" () and "Dick Clark's Good Ol' Days: From Bobby Sox to Bikinis" (1977-78). He worked in series television while getting his start in acting, including a part on "Life Matters" (1988-89). He also worked in television around this time, including a part on "Burt Wolf/ Eating Well" (1991-92).
