Boots Mallory was born in Mobile, Alabama as Lillian Patricia Eslava. She was known in Mobile as Lillian Mallory, taking the last name of her step-father. At 14 she became a ticket girl at a local theater in Mobile. When the Zigfield Follies came to Mobile she was offered a position in the Follies and she left with them. She married Charles Bennett when she was 19 and began working in George White's "Scandals". Her first movie break was with James Dunn in "Walking Down Broadway." She had twins, a boy and a girl. Her marriage to Herbert Marshall lasted until her death from complications of a sore throat. This information comes from the family files and scrapbook kept by her aunt, Elinor Van Der Braak and handed down to "Boots" half sister, Yvonne Eslava Shirley and to Yvonne's son, Arnold Shirley.
