Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

The early details of German-born actor Curt Lowens's life overshadow his later work on screen, which is something of a feat, considering he has been appeared steadily as an actor for decades. During World War II, he and his family were interned at the Nazi death camp Auschwitz, but somehow managed to get released. From there, Lowens became an active member of the Resistance, helping rescue Jewish children, before finally emigrating to the United States Lowens's work in film and TV consists almost entirely of secondary guest-star roles and B-movies. He often plays members of the military, even in some cases espousing fictional versions of the Germans that he used to battle against as a Resistance fighter. On TV, Lowens has been featured on everything from the medical drama "Marcus Welby, M.D." to the investigative series "Cold Case." In film, his more recent credits include the less-than-well-received 2008 Spike Lee World War II drama "Miracle at St. Anna" and a small part in the Tom Hanks-starring mystery-novel adaptation "Angels & Demons."
