Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Not since Prince changed his stage name to an unpronounceable hieroglyph back in 1993, had a symbol-bearing artist captivated as much with her music as with her fascinating persona. Singer and songwriter Ke$ha dominated the charts in 2009 with "Tik Tok," a party-till-you-drop anthem that blended pop lyrics, hip-hop delivery, and electronic beats. Ke$ha turned the mega-hit into her signature sound, propelled by similar hits off her debut album, Animal (2010). The messy-haired and foulmouthed vocalist turned in decent acting performances, often mocking her party-girl image, in hilarious short films for the Web site Funnyordie.com that went viral. A hybrid of 1980s-era Beastie Boys and '90s-era Madonna, Ke$ha's irresistible hooks coupled with her carefree attitude, entertained millions and firmly planted her career as a reputable pop star.
