Based on Neil Sheehan's Pulitzer Prixe-winning book, which tells the true story of John Paul Vann, one of the first U.S. senior military advisers sent to Vietnam. Vann shared this information, becoming a major source for American journalists critical of the war. Following Richard Nixon's election as president, Vann was appointed a civilian general, the first in history, for his efforts. While serving in this capacity, Vann was killed in a helicopter crash in 1972.
