Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Despite being nearly 30 before deciding to become an actor, Scott Elrod has managed to make quite a name for himself in films and on television. His breakthrough role came in 2007, when he landed the part of Cash on "Men in Trees" (ABC, 2006-08), and before long he was landing parts in major Hollywood movies such as "The Switch" (2010) and Ben Affleck's Academy Award-winning "Argo" (2012). In 2013, Elrod landed his first leading role as a washed-up baseball player in the sports drama "Home Run." He may have come to the decision later than most, but in less than a decade, Elrod proved his move into acting was the right choice. Born into a military family in Germany, Elrod moved around a lot as a child. His father flew airplanes for the Air Force and eventually Elrod would follow in his footsteps. He joined the Air Force after high school, earning his license to fly F-16 fighter jets, but eventually grew bored with the monotony of military life. He left the Air Force after six honorable years of service, and soon embarked on a career as an entrepreneur. With the help of a friend, Elrod started his own successful marketing company. However, once again, he desired a career that was fresh and exciting. Inspired by his favorite film of all time, the Tom Cruise action drama "Top Gun" (1986), Elrod decided to leave his life as a corporate boss behind and embark on an acting career in Los Angeles. He started taking acting classes six days a week, landing guest spots on "CSI: NY" (CBS, 2004-2013) and the short-lived American telenovela "Desire" (MyNetworkTV, 2006), before landing a recurring role as Cash, the boyfriend of Anne Heche's character, on the ABC drama, "Men in Trees." However, the network cancelled the show after two seasons in 2008. Undeterred, Elrod went on to rack up several film credits in the years that followed, most notably "The Switch," "Argo" and a starring turn in "Home Run" (2013), in which he played a professional baseball player with an alcohol problem.
