  • Vivien Leigh a Beautiful Tragedy

    • Jezebelle
    • 2012-09-25

I love her movies. Whether they were the critically acclaimed Scarlett O'Hara/Blanche DuBios portrayals or the not so well received Anna Karenina she gained and held your attention. Some say it was her acting itself that grabbed you, others say that it was her goddess like beauty (and both of those things are fantastic) but I give it to the subtlety of her eyes. Something in them is tragically sad, even if they aren't meant to be. Behind her beautiful green gray eyes hides this hurt, fragile and scared person, who, no matter what you do to try and sway her otherwise, will not trust you. They show just how guarded and alone she is; You just want to hold and protect her. Her personal life was full of strife and heartache but it never showed in her work, save for those hypnotizing eyes, and for that reason (mainly, not entirely) I adore her.

A godess in her own right. The complexity and beauty in her eyes. I love her!

When I first saw Vivien Leigh, I was watching Gone With The Wind. She was so beautiful and you could just tell that she WAS THE CHARACTER! She had this brightness in her eyes that demanded that you pay attention. She captured your eyes, your ears, and your heart. You could tell that she lived, breathed, and slept the stage. She is my inspiration. I only wish that I could've had the enchantment of meeting such an stunning and classy lady. -To Vivien, you shall remain forever in my heart.

I fell in love with Vivien Leigh like most fans when I first saw Gone With The Wind! Vivien Leigh has to be one of the move beautiful actresses to ever have graced the camera! And to top this off she could act! It was like she was born to play Scarlett O'Hara! There will never be another Vivien Leigh!

  • Much More than a Pretty Face

    • Alexa Leigh
    • 2011-05-15

As much as I would like to write an entire essay of words about her, I simply do not have the time at the moment so my review will be brief. It is difficult to find just where to begin when it comes to describing Vivien's as though all words are inadequate and uncapable of completely doing her justice. I am at a loss for words when faced with the task of comprising all the wonderful things about her in a nutshell. But, in short, there is no doubting the unique talent Vivien possesed when it came to acting in movies or on stage. She remains to this day a celebrated actress universally known for her role as Scarlett O'Hara in the highly acclaimed Gone With the Wind (1939). However, she was so much more than just a pretty face (perhaps the most beautiful of all time or at least so is the case in my opinion) and a convincing actress. Her personality and passion for life made her stand out amongst other stars of her time. That goes without mentioning her sheer determination to succeed, her fairytale-like yet tragic romance with Laurence Olivier, and her battle with manic depression and tuberculosis. Yet Vivien rose above it all and to this day continues to capture the hearts of millions of people all across the world. One thing is for certain, there was not, is not, and never will be anyone quite just like her. She is an inspiration to all her fans and, most importantly, a reminder that anything is possible if you truly set your heart on it. So I thank you, Vivien, for showing me to never lose hope when things seem impossible and also for proving that there is always a bright side in every situation no matter how dark it may appear. R.I.P Vivien Leigh. You will always be loved and remembered.

What other actor has had her enormous success? As Scarlett, Blanche, Ophelia on stage, she's the gold standard.

Vivien Leigh was a wonderful actress and in her starring role as Scarlet O'Hara she was amazing. Clark Gable was a wonderful actor to and they were cast in the part as Perfect and I'd like to see a lot more of her on TCM.

Amazing actress that I believe is completely under appreciated. Her performance in "Waterloo Bridge" I thought was amazing (I thought it was a great movie despite having the WWI clothing wrong, and they should've made Robert Taylor a yank somehow or at least said he was from Canada due to the accent). Her performance in "A Streetcar Named Desire" blew me away too. Cute in "Sidewalks of London" with a good performance by the great Charles Laughton. Just wish I could've seen her in some plays. Oh, and she was totally hot...beautiful, elegant, sexy, and intelligent (and much more then that)...what other woman has all of those qualities! And AFI has the nerve to put Marilyn Monroe of all people higher on their list, give me a break!

Vivien Leigh is the most beautiful actress on the screen, ever. No ifs and buts. She may also be one of the top performers in cinema history. In my view, Scarlett O'Hara is the No.1 female character, never surpassed, and she and Vivien were one thing. Of note, performances other than GWTW were also remarkable and are dearly remembered. Classic lady, classic star. There are few like her. Fortunately, current technology allows us to enjoy her films over and over. Gaston

  • Best Actress of all Time....

    • 2008-07-07

Vivien Leigh's movies are captivating. Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie of all time. It would have not been if it wasn't for Vivien Leigh. She was so stunning. All of her other movies are just as amazing in different ways. She grabs your attention and you can't turn your eyes from her. Her acting ability and beauty put her into a catagory that she stands alone in. No one today or in the past matches what Leigh delivers onscreen.

  • Under-appreciated

    • Scarlett
    • 2008-07-06

I believe that people fail to realize that Vivien Leigh was way more than Scarlett O'Hara or Blanche DuBois...I think that she was one of the most talented and beautiful actresses ever, and I think she was also among the most under-appreciated and under-recognized outside of GWTW of ASND.

Even though she did not star in many films and was not overly popular, i feel that vivien leigh was underappreiciated. Her biggest film by far was "Gone With the Wind" she also died young but if you watch her in the films she did get a chance to preform in her movements so fliud and simple yet they have a dramatic effect on the viewer. She makes my pulse and my mind race thinking "how can one person hold such a power that goes so unrealized" I ponder. she was none the less a fanominal actress.

I must say that she is one of the greatest actress in all the times. And yes is so sad that she was never enough credit for her fantastic perfomances and for her beauty, she was just beautiful and so talent. I'm fourteen and she is my favorite actres ever the number 1. And her eyes, her eyes and her smle so magnificent so green and do shining. I believe that no one can do better her role as Scarlett O'Hara she was the best. I just love her. Vivien you are the best.

Vivien, although stunningly beautiful, was never given enough credit for her wonderful performances. Its so sad that many of her critics didn't give her the credit she deserved until after she died. Out of all the actresses, living or dead, she is my absolute favorite.

She is underrated as an actress; one of the most beautiful women of all time. Vivien is my favorite actress, she was so good at playing tragedy, perhaps due to her own personal troubles. I wish she had done more films, the screen certainly benefited from her presence.

There is nothing in our modern high-tech society today that can compare with these classic greats, Waterloo Bridge, That Hamilton Woman, Wuthering Heights, Double Indemnity, just to name a few. The movies today simply do not compare to the old films. They were captivating and passionate, without the obscenity and nudity that is used today.

Vivien Leigh is probably the greatest English actress ever. People are blinded by her beauty sometimes, and can't see her talent, but she was a truly wonderful actress. She suffered numerous personal problems and managed through it to contribute so much to film and theater. She is an icon and a great actress.

  • One of the best actresses ever!

    • 2006-04-23

I consider dear Vivling one of my most beloved actress. She was an excellent drama and comedy performer, I think that she was very underrated just because of her beauty and the fact that her husband played in more movies so she was called 'Lady Olivier'. But I also know very well how unhappy and unlucky she was, considering her two illnesses: tuberculosis and the one that made her and other people lives hell-manic depression. I will always consider her on of the most oustanding actresses ever.

Vivien is by far my favorite actress of all time. She may have only been in a few well known American films, but few people realize how many movies and stage productions she made in England. And she, of course, was fabulous on all of them. I think she is so overlooked and deserves to have more attention by realeasing more of her films on Dvd/Vhs or at least have TCM play more of her movies. She is so beautiful and one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, actress the Silver Screen AND stage has ever had.
