Madame Leopoldine Konstantin was born in Austria in 1886. She was well known in the pre-WWII German film world and was referred to as the "German Mary Pickford." She was cast in Alfred Hitchcock's "Notorious" along with a number of other noted German film actors who had fled to the U.S. "Notorious" was her only American film. She was not happy with her role in the film, feeling that because of it she would be come to be viewed by American audiences as a "monster." Fans of "Notorious" generally find her performance a valuable contribution to the texture and range of the film. She died in Vienna in 1965.
