  • Powerful, Fantastic Actor!

One of the greatest actors ever! I first saw him when I was a teenager a few years ago, and I watch every one of his movies when shown on TCM! He can play a real creep as in Mutiny on the Bounty, and then play a comic roll such as in It started with Eve. He was great in both films, especially liked him in Les Miserables as Javert! Can never get enough of "Charlie L."!

I am amazed to discover there is no Charles Laughton collection on DVD. TCM, can you make this happen?

  • Charles Laughton, an actor of supreme mastery

One can only agree with the above comments that Charles Laughton was a supreme master actor -- and in addition to all the triumphs mentioned including "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame", "Mutiny on the Bounty", "This Land is Mine", "Les Miserables", "The Private Lives and Loves of Henry VIII", and "Witness for the Prosecution", among so many great films, Charles Laughton will also be remembered as a great director for not only all the staged plays in the United Kingdom that he acted in and directed, but also for the great film that he directed, "The Night of the Hunter" - and he will always be remembered for his great golden voice

HE WAS PERHAPS ONE OF THE GREATIST ACTORS THAT EVER LIVED.IT IS HARD TO SINGLE OUT ONE OF HIS FILMS,BECAUSE HE EXCELLED IN ALL OF THEM.BUT IN EVERY ROLE HE STOOD OUT. HE WAS THAT UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTER THAT TOOK OVER THE MOVIE.HE MADE YOU BELIEVE THAT HE WAS WHO HE PROTRAYED.

  • One of the finest actors ever to grace celluloid

    • John Klintworth
    • 2007-06-23

Charles Laughton was the consummate actor. He could play the most evil villain, the most gentle of gentlemen and could also play comedy as well as any Hollywood actor. To list all his great performances would take up too much space but for brevity I will list only the most notable: Island of Lost Souls The Sign of the Cross The Old Dark House The Private Life of Henry VIII (Academy Award as Best Actor) The Barretts of Wimpole Street Mutiny on the Bounty Ruggles of Red Gap Les Miserables Rembrandt The Hunchback of Notre Dame The Big Clock O. Henry's Big House Hobson's Choice Witness for the Prosecution (a triumph) Advise and Consent Any fan of screen acting should check out these films and enjoy his immense talent.
