Hamilton played on the New York stage for twenty five years before going to Hollywood in 1936 at the request of Warner Bros. He became typecast throughout his career as prison wardens, senators, generals and judges. During his career he made over three hundred film and television appearances, best known in television's "Superman," he also played in several "Superman" movies. Hamilton died from a heart condition.
