Against the background of the Civil War, sixteen-year-old song-and-dance artiste Lotta Crabtree works her way across America, becoming ever more popular.
After a premature retirement, the legendary singer revives his career to entertain the troops during World War II.
In a desperate attempt to get a job for Ken Daniels (Allan Jones) and Alvino Rey (Himself) and his Orchestra (themselves), agent Mike Simms (William Frawley) plots to make Daniels a missing heir. Simms hires Austin J. Caldwell (Gus Schilling) to pose as an attorney and go to Gus Borelli (Leo Carrillo), owner of the swank Blue Room, asking if he has heard about Daniels' inheritance. Borelli, figuring he can cut in on the money, bright Daniels and Simms to the Blue Room just as Pamela Mason (Kitty Carlisle) is rehearsing some songs with Zybisco (Sig Arno) and his string quintet. Simms refuses to let Daniels sing with the quintet,saying he has already made arrangements with Alvino Rey to bring his orchestra and the King Sisters (Alyce, Donna, Louise and Yvonne King) into the Blue Room. This causes Pamela to lose her job and she is furious with Daniels, who tells her he will get her a job with the Rey orchestra. Later, she discovers the hoax tells Borelli, who sets out to kill Daniels and Simms. They, and the orchestra, manage to escape just as the Blue Room is filling with customers drawn by Borelli's heavy advertising of Daniel's debut. He sends Pamela to bring them back.

Fictionalized story of the 1869 adoption of women's suffrage in Wyoming Territory. In the new-founded railroad town of Laraville, Boss Jim Cork hopes to manipulate the sale of town lots to give him control, but Quaker schoolmarm Annie Morgan bags one of the key lots. Cork's lawyer Steve Lewis tries romancing Annie to get the lot back, finding her so overpoweringly liberated she leaves him dizzy. Still, Steve attains his nefarious object...almost...then has cause to deeply regret having aroused the sleeping giant of feminism!

Scotty Hamilton is a reporter who works for a crooked editor. Bill Banning is another reporter who is about to expose the editor's ties to the mob. When the editor is killed, both reporter Banning and mobster Tony Garcia are suspected. However, Hamilton's friend Edgar Bergen solves the case (without much help from Charlie McCarthy).
Dagwood Bumstead (Arthur Lake) quits his job when his long-awaited vacation is postponed. Blondie (Penny Singleton) asks J.C. Dithers (Jonathan Hale) to give Dagwood his job back, and Dithers agrees but on the condition that Blondie take charge of the office while he is in Washington closing a deal. Dagwood, left to tend the house while Blondie goes to work, succumbs to a neighbor's suggestion to go fishing and leaves Baby Dumpling (Larry Simms) in care of Blondie's sister, Dot (Dorothy Moore), in town for a jitterbug contest. While fishing, Dagwood meets two entertainers from the Garden Cafe and when one of them, Francine (Linda Winters), almost overturns the boat, Dagwood grabs to save her, and the "glutch" is photographed. Blondie has the film from Dagwood's camera developed, and Dithers wires her to buy some land owned by the Garden Club proprietor before he learns that it has been approved as the site of the new airport. Enroute, she picks up the developed film. Dagwood has wandered off to play pool, and Dot and her boy friend, Freddie (Joel Dean), take Baby Dumpling with them to the jitterbug contest at the Garden Cafe. Blondie recognizes Francine from the fishing photograph just as Dagwood comes along in pursuit of Baby Dumpling. She smacks him with her purse, then leaves with Baby Dumpling. The cafe owner finds the Dithers telegram realizes the importance of his land. Meanwhile, reeling from the impact of Blondie's blow, wins the jitterbug contest with his wild gyrations.
