MALTIN REVIEW:
D: Nicholas Ray. Robert Taylor, Cyd Charisse, Lee J. Cobb, John Ireland, Kent Smith. Crooked lawyer (Taylor) and showgirl (Charisse) try to break free from Chicago mob life. Charisse has a couple of torrid dance numbers; Ray's stylish treatment has won this film a cult following. CinemaScope.

MALTIN REVIEW:
D: Lowell Sherman. Loretta Young, Cary Grant, Jackie Kelk, Henry Travers, Russell Hopton, Harry Green, Marion Burns. Conniving unwed mom Young raises illegitimate son to cheat his way through life; when he has an accident and is adopted by rich Grant and his wife, she schemes to break up their marriage. Sassy, sometimes sappy story by Ralph Graves is notable for pre-Code morals (or lack of them) and two exceptionally good-looking stars.

D: Luis Bunuel. Dan O'Herlihy, Jaime Fernandez. Colorful, entertaining adaptation of Daniel Defoe's classic story about a resourceful shipwreck victim, with some distinctive Bunuel touches; vivid performance by O'Herlihy. Screenplay by Philip Ansell Roll (Hugo Butler) and Bunuel. Excellent music score by Anthony Collins. Main title on film is ROBINSON CRUSOE.

D: D. Ross Lederman. Michael Duane, Lenore Aubert, Richard Lane, James Cardwell, Ann Doran. The final Whistler series entry, about Duane's efforts to find his wealthy fiancee, who's been kidnapped and put in an asylum by a man who claims that she's already his wife. Intriguing Cornell Woolrich story.

MALTIN REVIEW:
D: Lew Landers. Johnny Weissmuller, Bob Waterfield, Sheila Ryan, Rick Vallin, Lyle Talbot. Real-life gridiron hero Waterfield plays a footballer who has become leader of a small jungle tribe besieged by marauding "skeleton men.'' Never fear, Jungle Jim Weissmuller is on the case.

MALTIN REVIEW:
D: S. Sylvan Simon. Wallace Beery, Fay Bainter, Reginald Owen, Keye Luke, Ray Collins, Marilyn Maxwell, William Lundigan, Donald Curtis, Noah Beery, Sr., Rose Hobart, Bobby (Robert) Blake. OK WW2 propaganda with Beery in his element as a crusty Marine who reluctantly retires, then finds himself caught in a surprise attack on the Philippines. Some of Beery's adjectives for the Japanese must be heard to be believed.
