Slip back into the era of silent movie houses this Halloween during a special presentation of the original 1925 film, The Phantom of the Opera accompanied by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, October 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 - $38 and available online at www.atlantasymphony.org or call 404.733.5000.
The multiple Grammy Award-winning orchestra will bring the classic horror film to life. Starring Lon Chaney as the unforgettable "Man of a Thousand Faces," coupled with a newly compiled music score by Rick Friend, the one-of-a-kind Halloween performance will captivate the audience and transport them back to France in the 1900's - the backdrop for the classic gothic horror / romance novel by Gaston Leroux. The score prepared for this version is faithful to the emotions of the film, thematically interesting, while non-intrusive. With excerpts from Gounod's Faust, Danse Macabre of Saint-Saens and Rick Friend's original music of composed piano and synthesizer improvisation, the score is strikingly similar to what would have been played in 1925 silent film movie houses.
